The Issue
Creating a competition is perhaps the most frustrating thing for new editors to get used to. This is due to MarchingWiki's policy of linking groups to competitions and vice-versa. To add a new group to a competition, that group must already have been created. There are several options for someone who is trying to create a competition but not all the groups are created. Firstly, you could simply skip over the groups that have not yet been created and add them later. Secondly, you could spend a few seconds and create each group using only their very basic profile information. Lastly, you could create the competition, then ask for help from other users by posting on the competition's Discussion page.
Creating a Competition
Before creating any page on MarchingWiki, you should search for it first to make sure it hasn't already been created. To create a competition once you are logged in, click the Contribute link from the user menu at the top right. Then click the Create a new competition link. From here you will enter some preliminary information about the competition and it will be added to the database if it isn't already created. Once that's completed, use MarchingWiki's editing tools (simply click the Edit link in the page's top menu) to add more information about that competition's profile and results. Use the green "year navigation" boxes to edit information for past years. Your changes will occur immediately upon submission.
Adding Multiple Groups
In the Results tab of the Edit page, find the Add Performing Groups section. Here you will see three buttons which are mostly self-explanatory. Simply enter all the information for one group, then click the Add Another Group button to create another line for a new group. Once finished, click Save.
Editing Existing Information
In the Results tab of the Edit page, find the Edit Existing Information section. From here you can click the Edit or Delete buttons to modify existing information for the competition. Please note that you may want to consult the Discussion page before deleting a result, as other users may have something to say about your contribution.
Adding a recap - you can add a recap link if you know where one exists on the internet. Simply click the Add/Edit Recap link.
Class display order - you might want the classes in a competition to be display in a certain order on its main page. To do this, click the Change Class Order link. Type in a number next to each class (beginning with 1) to set a custom display order, then click Save.
Remove class division - there are some competitions which ignore the classification of the performing groups and judge everyone against each other, such as Bands of America Finals. If this is the case for a competition you are editing, click the checkbox for No Classes and click Save next to it. Now, the results will be sorted by score alone.
Use placings instead of scores - although MarchingWiki prefers to have scores in the database, there are some cases when scores are not released or are otherwise unknown. In these cases, use the Sort by Place checkbox and click Save next to it. This will remove the Score field on the main page and sort by placing instead of score.
